The Greggs Pledge: 10 ways we’re baking a difference

In case you didn’t realise, the planet can be pretty great sometimes.

That’s why we’re dedicated to playing our part in helping to make the world a better place by 2025.

By following the 10 commitments outlined in our Greggs Pledge, we’re working towards some tasty milestones in building stronger, healthier communities, helping to make the planet safer and becoming a better business.

  • Every school day we provided a free meal to more than 62,000 children across our network of 896 Breakfast Clubs.

  • We opened six new Greggs Outlets, providing affordable food with a share of the profits giving back to the local community.

  • We bought 30% more vegetables than we did in 2019, helping our customers eat more of their five-a-day.

  • We won the healthy eating award at the 2023 ‘Sandwich and Food to Go Industry Awards’ for our tasty Sweet Potato Bhaji and Rice Box.

  • We added a simple and recognisable recycling icon to 100% of our own packaging so that everyone knows how to get their rubbish in the right bins.

  • We tackled single-use plastics, got rid of unnecessary packaging and reduced how much plastic we use elsewhere (like stretch-wrap film and plastic trays).

And that’s not all. Here’s the plans we’ve cooked up for the rest of this year and beyond…

  • By the end of 2025, we commit to having 50 Greggs Outlets in areas where families are likely to be hit hardest by issues like food poverty and deprivation.

  • We hope to be reaching 70,000 children every school day with Greggs Foundation Breakfast Clubs, helping them start the day right, when they might otherwise go without a nutritious meal.

  • Although we’ll likely need packaging to keep our products fresh, we’re finding smarter ways to ensure that we use more sustainable materials and less packaging overall.

  • We will continue to participate in schemes like the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare, ensuring that all animals in our supply chain are treated with the respect and care they deserve.
